Fletcher Building and WINZ Providing Employment Opportunities

Fletcher Building and Work and Income have today announced significant progress in their recruitment and development relationship, as they look to promote employment opportunities in the construction sector.

Through its close relationship with Work and Income, Fletcher Building’s Christchurch-based Earthquake Recovery (EQR) organisation has, in the past nine months, placed 26 beneficiaries into paid employment. Other Fletcher Building businesses are also partnering with Work and Income to provide similar opportunities.

Fletcher Building group general manager of human resources Kate Daly said the majority of the 26 Fletcher EQR recruits had already been promoted internally.

“That shows there are talented people out there who can and will contribute greatly to the workforce, if they’re presented with an opportunity.

“By partnering with Work and Income our businesses can provide those opportunities for keen job-seekers, while also increasing their own recruitment options,” she said.

A further significant announcement made today was the appointment of a Work and Income programme manager, who will be based at Fletcher Building’s head office and will oversee the company’s employment and development partnership with the Government.

“Having a Work and Income manager in-house will allow us to better identify people who are eager to work but may need extra assistance in finding the right path.

“The Government sees the benefit we can provide in that respect, whether it’s through assisting New Zealanders into employment, providing career opportunities in New Zealand for Pacific Island-based workers or offering cadetships, as we’re doing in conjunction with Te Puni Kōkiri,” Kate Daly said.
