Worksafe Investigation Concluded

Fletcher Building has been advised that the WorkSafe New Zealand investigation involving the Canterbury Home Repair Programme (CHRP) has been concluded.

WorkSafe has advised Fletcher Building that it does not intend any enforcement action as a result of the investigation, and that an application made previously to the District Court for an extension of time for the investigation will not be pursued.

The CHRP involves the repair of properties where the cost falls between $15,000 and $100,000. In its capacity as agent for the Earthquake Commission, Fletcher Earthquake Recovery, a business unit of Fletcher Building, is project managing independent building contractors to carry out the repair work.

The investigation concerned the process by which houses containing asbestos had been repaired under the CHRP. Asbestos containing materials were used widely in homes and other buildings throughout New Zealand between 1940 and 1990.

Fletcher Building has engaged with WorkSafe throughout the repair programme in regard to processes for handling all hazards, including asbestos.
