Fletcher Living to Build 191 New Homes in Central Christchurch

Fletcher Building subsidiary Fletcher Living will build 191 new homes in Christchurch over the next two years following the company’s appointment as preferred partner for the Colombo and Welles housing developments.

Building and Housing Minister Dr Nick Smith made the announcement today at the Welles St site. Fletcher Living was selected following a competitive procurement process.

Fletcher Living Chief Operating Officer Steve Evans said the company was excited to help Christchurch residents return to the central city. “Our apartments and terraced homes will have environmentally-friendly features and will be architecturally designed with a modern, funky look that reflects the area’s light industrial history.”

Mr Evans said the Colombo and Welles developments are just outside the CBD in a part of the city that is being revitalised. “It’s a vibrant area on the rise with great amenities including green spaces, the nearby retail and innovation precincts and of course all the excitement of central city living. Our high quality developments will be great additions to their neighbourhoods with their mixture of homes and shops.”

Both the Colombo and Welles developments will include apartments and terraced houses with well-designed communal spaces and retail space on the ground floor.

Mr Evans said preparatory work has begun on both sites and resource applications would be lodged in the next month. The developments are scheduled to be completed by late 2017.

Other major Fletcher Construction projects in Canterbury include Awatea and Carrs Rd housing developments, The University of Canterbury Regional Science and Innovation Centre, the Grand Central retail and commercial development, the Christchurch Justice and Emergency Services Precinct as well as the completion of the EQR Canterbury Home Repair Programme and infrastructure work as part of SCIRT.
