Fletcher Building Pledges $5million in Support of Christchurch

Fletcher Building Limited (“Fletcher Building”) announces that it will commit $5 million in support of the recovery and reconstruction efforts in Christchurch, following last week’s devastating earthquake.

A number of projects are being considered which will benefit from the amount pledged, including repair of historic buildings in the city, and the provision of relief accommodation for those displaced through damage to their homes.

Fletcher Building chief executive Jonathan Ling said "We have been looking at ways in which Fletcher Building can make a direct contribution to the rehabilitation of Christchurch. Our capabilities mean we are well placed to assist in the restoration work of historical public buildings that have been a proud feature of the Christchurch cityscape.

"At the same time, we recognize that many people have been displaced from their houses due to damage, and that more will need to find temporary accommodation as repairs are done to their homes. Part of the $5 million we are committing today will go towards assisting with this issue.

"We have yet to finalise exactly how the $5 million will be allocated and will be working with local and central government over the next few weeks as we develop more specific plans", Mr Ling said.
