Fire at Taupo MDF Plant

An overnight fire has caused damage to  Fletcher Building’s Taupo medium density fibreboard (MDF) plant.  No employees were injured in the fire, which is understood to have begun at around 7.00 pm yesterday.

Although the MDF plant is likely to be out of operation for some months, the company has alternative sources of supply, including its Australian facilities.  The particle board plant, which operates from the same Taupo premises, is unaffected by the fire.

Fletcher Building carries standard business interruption and property insurances, which carry a $10 million deductible.  An investigation into the fire will commence immediately.  However, at this stage the company does not expect that it will have a material impact on its results for the 2007 financial year.
