Fletcher Building Treasury Team takes top trophy

The Fletcher Building Treasury team led by Thornton Williams has won the award for Excellence in Treasury at the 2017 Institute of Financial Professionals Inc. New Zealand (IFINZ) Awards.

Fletcher Building Chief Financial Officer Bevan McKenzie said the win was a deserved recognition of the team's customer focus and better every day approach.

The prestigious IFINZ awards, held annually, are open to professionals working in the New Zealand wholesale finance and capital markets.

This year's award for Excellence in Treasury was judged by Chief Financial Officer IAG NZ Mary-Jane Daly, Chief Investment Officer of Tainui Group Holdings Craig Stephen and Head of Product at Australian Corporate Bond Company Paddy Mullins.

Fletcher Building Group General Manager Treasury and Risk Thornton Williams who heads up the team said the win wouldn't have happened without the help of his team.

The Treasury team at Fletcher Building includes Fletcher Building Treasury Dealers Steven Moon and Ryan Ashmore and is responsible for financial risk management. The team works with business units to identify and appropriately manage financial risks, to guide strong business decisions and to help Fletcher Building's businesses to operate in all economic climates.

"This is very much a team award. I'd like to recognise the contribution of Steven Moon and Ryan Ashmore who work so hard to keep the whole operation working so smoothly," says Thornton.

"I'd also like to recognise Philip King as he was the architect of the treasury transformation and has provided great finesse and support to what we have achieved over the past two years," says Thornton.

Treasury is also responsible for ensuring Fletcher Building's funding requirements are met, there is a diversity of funding sources, and the group is funded cost effectively. Oversight of all banking and financing facilities and relevant documentation and bank relationship management are other areas of responsibility for the Treasury team.

The Excellence in Treasury Award was presented at the INFINZ Awards black-tie dinner. Held in May each year, this gala event is attended by more than 800 guests and is a highlight of the financial calendar. On the evening 13 awards and two fellowships were presented.
