Fletcher Building rainbow shed helps Rural Rainbow Youth

The rainbow wrapped shed that was such a hit at Auckland’s 2017 Pride Festival has raised an impressive $7,600 at a gala auction event for Rainbow Youth’s rural outreach programme.

Fletcher Building Pride’s Belinda Lee says the fundraiser was a special night as it will benefit some of the Rainbow communities’ most vulnerable members.

“Our shed raised more than a quarter of the total amount raised on the night. It was a lovely moment for all of the members of Fletcher Building Pride because we know that it will make a difference to young people throughout New Zealand.”

The shed originally appeared on Fletcher Building float in the Auckland Pride Festival in February. The float also featured a banner promoting the charity auction and encouraging people to bid on the shed and associated tools and outdoor seating that were also auctioned off as part of the Fletcher Building donated package.

“The Pride festival is a great way to celebrate diversity and inclusion and is obviously a highlight for both the Rainbow community and its allies," says Belinda.

"A focus for Fletcher Building Pride this year has been to give something back to the Rainbow community. So this year we wanted our parade float to not only be colourful and fun but also meaningful. A number of our businesses really got in behind this initiative and we just couldn’t have done it without them."

The shed was donated by ShedBoss South Auckland, with garden tools, power tools and an outdoor setting donated by PlaceMakers.

The colourful rainbow decals on the shed were donated by Brave Design.
