Green buildings and infrastructure

Fletcher Building is continuously developing new technologies, products and processes to meet emerging customer and stakeholder expectations, and deliver operational efficiencies. We aim to develop and manufacture a wide range of building materials and solutions. Fletcher Building recognises sustainability and climate change are important drivers of new product development and we are responsive to these.

  • A steel and concrete floor system that enables suspended floors
  • Designs for greater use of concrete in houses, improving heat retention and comfort
  • Building solutions involving concrete, plasterboard and fibreglass insulation to improve performance attributes such as heat retention
  • Development of composite wood panels with low formaldehyde emission to provide improve indoor air quality

The Environmental Choice

As a builder of houses and commercial buildings, Fletcher Building is gaining significant experience in construction methods that reduce the energy use of buildings. We are involved with Beacon Pathway, a research consortium that is working to make New Zealand homes more sustainable and the Green Building Council of Australia.

Fletcher Building companies are also aiming to be more sustainable, with Environmental Choice labelling on products made by GIB®, Pink® Batts® and Laminex®.

Environmental Choice is the brand name of the New Zealand Ecolabelling Trust. The labelling is a voluntary method aiming to recognise the approach being made by manufacturers to reduce their products' impact on the environment.

Environmental Choice certification has been given to GIB® plasterboards 13mm or greater in thickness, the Pink® Batts® Ultra Range and The Laminex Group's GreenfirstTM range.

Work is also underway at a number of our other business units to gain their Environmental Choice accreditation.
